A very rare Quarter Stater from the Treveri in exceptional condition

NORTHEAST GAUL. Treveri. 2nd century BC. Quarter Stater (Electrum, 13 mm, 1.86 g, 3 h), 'à la tête cornue' type. Celticized male head to right, with goat horn over his ear and stylized goatee. Rev. Horseman riding human-headed horse to left; below, wing. DT 128. Flesche -. LT -. SLM -. Very rare and in exceptional condition for the issue. The reverse struck very slightly off center, otherwise, extremely fine.

Privately acquired from Degussa in 2023 (inv. no. 107264).
The Treveri inhabited the lower Moselle Valley and its surroundings. Their name later transferred to Augusta Treverorum, a Roman settlement established under Augustus, which would evolve into the principal town of the Treveri civitas and one of the most significant Roman cities north of the Alps
